    Hi Blair.

We don’t have a method to automatically take the first image and use it as the featured image. But we’ve discussed your question here and agree that’s a worthwhile feature, so we’ve put it on the dev list. Thanks!

Could you clarify the use case in your second question. The republished articles already automatically display the name of the author of the original article. Are you requesting the ability to:

    (a) suppress the WP author name that some themes display along with each post; or

    (b) to still display a WP author name, but have the WP author name that is pre-selected in the author dropdown in the Add New Post page be preset to, say, “News Desk” rather than the usual setting of “Blair”?

    Oh great!

    Answer B.

    Thank you

Any progress on setting a default author, category, and setting first image as featured image? Thanks.

We are working on this feature (setting first image as featured). We would appreciate more specifics on the ability to set a default author and category. Can you explain?

It would be helpful to set a specific user(author) for these repubhub posts. Also helpful if we could set a specific default category for all draft repubhub posts.

Has the “featured image” feature ever been implemented? I don’t see how to get it working.

You can always add your own featured image to any embed using your standard method.

If you want to select the first image that appears in an article that will be embedded on your site, copy that first image from the full text of the article to your media library prior to pasting in the embed code. Set that image as featured. Change the “showFirstImage” element in the embed code from “true” to “false” so that the featured image is not repeated in the embed.

The ability to automatically select a featured image from among those that may be available within the republished article is on our development queue. (It is tricky to implement this in a way that will reliably work with all themes.)
