Unchecked the box, and it does appear. But now I can’t get it to go away on the front page, short of deleting the tag altogether from the posts.

Would that be the Tag or the Featured content section?

The box labelled [ ] Don’t display tag on front end
at the bottom of the Featured Content accordion.

Ticking or unticking the checkbox now makes no difference, either in preview in Customize, or after saving change and reloading the front page.

Assuming you mean the ‘Don’t display tag on front end’ then this only controls the Tag output in the tag cloud or under the post in the blog feed if the options to show Featured content in blog feed is selected. Or are we talking about a different checkbox?

Looks as if I misunderstood the purpose of this tag.

So where do I turn on or off the inclusion of a Featured Post on the front page?

Please provide a link to the site as a closer inspection of the site’s source code usually helps debug the issue.

It’s still very much a temporary website ‘in draft’ and under constant development for the next two or three weeks. But you can see it at http://kiidstrust.dyndns.org – the final site will move to a permanent url later.

Currently the only option is to not tag the post with the tag designated for the Featured content

If you wish to turn the entire Featured section off while still retaining the tags for the specific posts then enter “none” in the tag box of the Featured content options in the Customizer.

Please note that the above workaround assumes that you have no posts designated as Sticky – if you have sticky post then the option to disable the entire featured section under General options would the best one.

Let me know if that resolves the issue or if I’ve missed anything.

I’m still very new to the use of WordPress Featured Content. I’m not even quite sure how it is supposed to work.

What I wanted (I think) was for Featured Content (i.e., posts tagged with ‘featured’ or whatever is chosen instead) to appear on a blog page, but not on the Front Page.

    Is that possible?

As for Sticky Posts, I haven’t figured out yet how to make a post ‘sticky’, so I haven’t got any yet. But I’ve just looked up how to make a post Sticky.

What I wanted (I think) was for Featured Content (i.e., posts tagged with ‘featured’ or whatever is chosen instead) to appear on a blog page, but not on the Front Page.

That means having a static page set as the home/front page and another page for posts right?

If that is the desired result then all you have to do is create two pages naming one home/welcome or as desired, a second page named blog/news or as desired. After creating those pages and publishing them navigate to Settings >> Reading and in the two dropdown boxes select the two pages as appropriate and save.

Let me know if that is what you are looking for.
