Featured Content Slider based on Top Level Categories

  • I am looking to create a Featured Post area similar to the one on http://thepioneerwoman.com/. If any of you have or know of good tutorials for this sort of thing, could you share them?

Here’s what I’d like to do:
The featured content slider would have 5 categories. The user would be able to click on an icon to display the featured content for that specific category.
The display would be a large image, the navigation icons above the image, and the post info would display below the large image (something like Post Title and maybe a date or byline).

I have seen some tutorials on creating a basic featured content slider, but haven’t found a good one that covers what I am looking to do. So, I’d appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks in advance!
