Feature to encrypt user Personal information (PII)

  • With increasing concerns over data privacy, enterprise clients are asking for user personal information like email, First name, last name to be encrypted.
Though there are hooks for encryption, there is complete lack of hooks and filters which can be used to decrypt the encrypted values. At the moment core file modification seems to be only way to consistently encrypt and decrypt users personal information.

There should be an consistent way to implement encryption and decryption of user personal information.

This will help in improving the acceptance by enterprise clients.

  • I concur — PII encryption is fast becoming a requirement, both within enterprises and by-law/regulation, and it would be best to provide such functionality within the core codebase rather than via a plugin.
