• Hello

I had some ideas for further features of the plugin.

    1. New field type: “Value”.

It would be cool if there was a field type called value, which is similar to the number field, however you can also enter a type of measurement. So for instance, the type of measurement could be meters. The user would then only have to insert his height and meters would be added automatically. This would lead help keeping the profiles cleaner (if you would use any other field, some people would insert their height in cm, meter, or whatever type of measurement you can imagine).

Another advantage of this field type would come to live in the member directory, more precisely in the search options. You could advance the search filters, like people would be able to search for a ratio (–> Show all people of a height between 1.50 and 2 meters), which is as well not possible with the number field for instance.

    2. Member directory sorting

Now, the administrator can decide in which sequence the users are displayed. However, I would like to have a possibility to let the users decide. Maybe a setting in the backend where you can enable this feature. The admin will then declare some field types that are available for users to choose as a sorting type. The user could then in the search filters decide which one of the filters he wanted to use in order to determine the sequence of the users shown in the directory.

I would really like to see those features, unluckily I cannot code and will thus have to wait for an update 🙂 Sorry if this is the wrong place for feature requests, it was the only place I could find. Thanks for your help and your great plugin!

  • Regarding #1, paragraph 1, that could be done if you simply fix the type of measurement (m/cm vs. f/in) and a numerical field value.

paragraph 2. You are mistaken. That can easily be done with the present free version of UM.

Regarding #2. paragraph 1, not sure what you meant but if you want users decide who comes on top of a search, you can always allow users to be displayed by ‘last login’ which brings the last to log in first on top. This would also give then incentive to return more often to your site.

    Thanks for your quick reply!

Regarding #1 paragraph 1: Could you be a bit more specific please? Which field type would I have to chose for this? Number?

paragraph 2: Also here, I need some additional information, please. I know how to activate search filters, but if I chose a field that is a numeric value, the user can search for a number, but not for a number range. How can I activate this in the settings?

#2: Yeah I am aware of that. What I actually want is that the users are displayed by last login by default. However, if someone would prefer to have them displayed by another variable, such as “height” or by the name, he can do so by choosing it in the search filters. He should however only be allowed to chose from variables that are kind of “whitelisted” by an admin.

    Thanks you very much.

Regarding #1 paragraph 1: you would have to create a number field, yes. Then, you make sure in the help text tooltip, that people understand that they would be entering a value in (you choose your fixed measurement type).

paragraph 2. Unless you want to include dwarfs and people afflicted with gigantism (that sounds do wrong to even be mentioned) you can just create a drop-down menu for the ranges (e.g. from 5.5 f/in. to 5.9 f/in.).

You need, however, to decide which method you are going to use for people to search by height. It would be redundant to have both methods in place.

Regarding, your remark about #2, I am still not sure about what you need to do.

    Hello.
    Thanks for your help.

Yeah I only used height for demonstration purposes 😛

I think #2 needs some code or needs to be a feature of the plugin.
