[Resolved] Feature Request: Rename Widget?

  • pixelkicks

    @pixelkicks

    I produce websites for lots of different customers, and train them in how to update their website themselves.

    I use this widget a lot, but one thing that annoys me is the name. Eg. I’m speaking to the customer and telling them that to change the little bit of text on the right hand sidebar, they should Go to Appearance – Widgets, and then expand ‘Black Studio TinyMCE'”.

    It’s not the most friendly name, and doesn’t really signify what it is or does. It would be great if we could rename it to something like “Snippet”, “Text Block”, or something generic like that.

    I’ve used the Spots plugin in the past and the name of that suits itself very well, but the widget editor is poor (unless you go to the full page editor).

    Anyone else find this useful?

    Hi pixelkicks,
    I can understand perfectly your point. For future versions I will evaluate if it can be the case to change the widget name, or at least provide a filter hook to alter it via custom code.
    In the meantime there’s a workaround based on the ‘gettext’ wp native hook. You may find the code snippet (to be inserted in theme’s functions.php or in a site-specific plugin) here.

    Thanks Marco, thats great. Appreciate your feedback and understanding.
