Before using SG Optimizer;s lazy loading I had a plugin to do the job (Lazy Loader
By Florian Brinkmann, MarcDK). Allthough not as comprehensive as SG’s one of its benefits (IMO) was that it loaded images about 1 screen ahead (i.e. out of view), rather than loading them when they first enter the viewport as SG appears to do.

The benefit of this was that at normal browsing/reading speeds there was never any of the bank associated with an image loading when it was in view.Unless one scrolled fast down a page, there was no visible signs of lazy loading taking place – a much better user experience I think.

The downside is that initial page size is increased a little, but from a user experience perspective I feel this is a worthwhile ‘hit’.

Could this be added (perhaps as a toggle option?)

We are following Google’s best practices for the Lazy Loading configuration. It loads ahead of the viewpoint so with normal scrolling images should be rendered without visible delay. This said if images are too big, the time they need to load might not be enough. I am afraid we can’t provide such setting since it’s automatically generated based on the device’s screen size.
