Support » Requests and Feedback » Feature Request: Jetpack Carousel on WordPress.org Plugin Screenshots

    Hello, there!

I’m submitting this feature request on behalf of @stagger-lee, who originally posted it in the Jetpack plugin support forum. Their request is as follows:

    `
It is a constant source of irritation checking for plugins, then clicking on the images to see clearly what is plugin about. And have to click back in the browser. Just to be redirected to the first image in the slide. And all of them are small, blurry, and go find again where you have been. Really annoying.

Jetpack carousel would fit perfectly for plugin’s image slide presentation.

    Common, you are all Automattic.

I mean it is not first time, or I am to sensitive person. It lasts for years. I come to wordpress.org to educate myself about plugins, it is not Facebook that people are here to spend spare time.

    So it goes shortly:

    – Plugin Screenshots are small and blurry even on big screens.
    – Clicking to make image bigger, and clicking back arrow sets you back on image number one. Despite you maybe were on next last image.
    – Many plugins have, how to call it, “nested” screenshots. Backend previews with very similar images. Sometimes you have no clue what image have you seen, and what next you need to see.

When I search suitable plugin(s) for my project I really search many of them. And as they say one image says more than thousands of words.

    Thank you for reply.

    Thank you for request.

    – Very lightweight image slider script.
    – Arrows left-right, X to close. It is all needed.

It would be better had the request come from the person who wanted it. 😉

NOPE! Not true. WordPress.org and Automattic are two separate and disconnected groups. While Automattic does contribute a lot of time, people, etc. so do many other companies.

That’s not word play on my part, it’s the truth.

Jetpack carousel would fit perfectly for plugin’s image slide presentation.

I don’t think making a dependency on both a plugin (Jetpack) and a 3rd party service (WordPress.COM) is a good idea for the plugin repository here. It just adds another dependency that does not need to exist.

Man, you moderators are professionals to beat the bush. 🙂
OK, I know what you don’t want. Make a another suggestion.
Say do you think is it a problem at all.

We do use Jetpack extensively here on w.org already, and indeed I have thought about using Carousel for the screenshot views in the plugin listings.

It may be something that we implement at some point, but since most people look for plugins through their WordPress installs and not through the directory here, it has not been a priority.

    OK, thanks.

Just give it a thought from time to time.
