• Hi Brajesh,

Please can you add an option in groups under “Enable Gallery”:
-Allow group members to create galleries/upload media?

If it is unchecked, only group admins and mods should create/upload.

    Thanks

In my case, totally preventing group members from creating/uploading is good as well.

    Hi Georgio,
Thank you. It’s a very good suggestion and I will add it in next update.

Here is what I plan to Do:-
Allow site admins top select who can create gallery and who can upload.

There is one problem with this plan though, if a siteadmin selects only moderators/group admins can create gallery, A user will not be able to upload to group wall unless a gallery gets created by the group admin/moderator.

Do you have any suggestions on how to handle that case?

    Thank you

Here is another approach for your plan:

You should explore the reasons a site admin would like to do something like that. Then it will become easier to find solutions. Example of criterions:

    1. Time-based, ex: “Users can create a gallery x days after registration.”
    2. Category-based: Let the site admin create a list of categories in the dashboard for ex: artists, students, managers etc. When a user clicks to create a gallery, they will be presented with a drop-down list with the categories they must choose from. The category should be shown at the top of each gallery. This will discourage users to use categories in order to upload unrelated stuff.
    3. Plugin-based, ex: bbpress (Only users with x posts can create a gallery) or Anspress (Only users with reputation 1000 can create a gallery) etc.
4.Role based, ex: “Only contributors and higher can create a gallery.”
    5. Case-based. You add a checkbox in the userlist in the dashboard, where the site admin can check who can create.
    6. Flag-based, ex: All users have permission to create galleries but they can be moderated or even blocked from creation if their galleries are flagged x times.

Once a user becomes a group admin, they can check (or not) a checkbox under “Enable Gallery” to allow (or not) members to upload. Alternatively, you can add a checkbox in the group memberlist for the group admin to check who can do what.

I think also that a gallery creator should be able to allow/disallow commenting for their galleries.

    Regards

    Clarification:

Alternatively, you can add a checkbox in the group memberlist for the group admin to check who can do what.

    A checkbox near each username.

    Hi Georgio,
I am sorry but 1,2,3 does not qualify for integration into core. I want to focus on Media upload/View experience and the cases will add additional overhead. I believe case 1,2,3,5 are best left for custom plugins. By doing it in custom plugin, It won’t add extra overhead in core.

I believe case 4 for group is apt, we need some kind of basic permission like who can create gallery members/moderators/group admin and also who can upload-members/moderators/group admins.

I will have another updated in 1-2 weeks(most probably next week) and will add it.

    Thank you

Some thoughts… It is reasonable that a site admin decides who (for example: which role) can “Enable Gallery” but they should not intervene in the groups affairs. A site admin doesn’t know how a group admin wants to use their group.

A group may be used for a collective affair where all members have equal permissions but also for a personal reason where you want to have the control.
An example of the first case is a group for a football club and an example for the second case is an artist’s group. Well, an artist wants to have members-fans but may want the gallery only to present his/her OWN work.

Same case for comments. If you create a group for personal reason, you may use Mediapress to show your galleries and creations but you may not want to be bothered by comments.

So, in my opinion, only a group admin should decide about galleries/media inside the group.

    Hi @sbrajesh

I hope you do well today and your plan with mediapress permissions progresses.
Meanwhile, do you have a snippet to restrict media uploading to only admins/mods in groups?

    Have a nice day!
