Support » Plugin: MediaPress » Feature Request: don’t publish the post if images are still in loading

  • Hi,
I want to report some things that I experienced testing the plugin:

1 – during the loading of the Site-Wide Activity Page, the images of the buttons are visible and positioned in the wrong place. It should not be so. They should be hidden,

2 – If I click on the publish button when images are still in loading, the post is published without images. This is not good.

3 – in Lightbox Container, I see that If I click the image, it opens the WordPress page with the image.

4 – The classic WordPress bulk regenerator of the Thumbnails creates new thumbnails with the original sizes. So, if I have changed the sizing of the thumbnails from 200px to 250px, using the interface of the plugin, the regeneration of the thumbnails create images large 200px and not 250px.

    Feature requests:

1 – Don’t allow the publication of the post if the images are still in loading.

2 – Add the setting to enable or disable the possibility to click on the image loaded in the Lightbox container to open the WordPress page of the image.

At the moment, to disable this I made a CSS adjustment:

/* In the Lightbox container, disable the Link to the Page of the image */
    .mpp-lightbox-media-container a {
    	pointer-events: none;
    	cursor: default;
    }

3 – I would be able to delete a post from the Sitewide Activity Stream and get also the attached images deleted from the Wall Posts Gallery and disk directories.

At the moment, I see that IF I delete images from the WordPress media Library, they disappear from the posts published. If I delete a post from the BuddyPress activity the images of the post are still stored in the gallery, this becomes a problem.

From the Wall Posts Gallery, they should be deleted when a user deletes a post.

This feature is important. It prevents to store a mountain of images that get abandoned.

4 – I would be happy to get the upload from URL.

5 – If a website shows images and galleries only to logged in users, why I cannot get a Gallery page/directory that shows such galleries from all the users? Please add this feature.

6 – Add a tool that delete the buddypress posts + the attached images that are older than 30 days (for example). This would be something great and that I really need to make clean the website.

I am going to use the plugin assiduously on my BuddyPress website. It is great.

I hope you would add all or some of the features I required. 🙂

    Thank you for your support.

    Kind regards

    G. Aloe

    Hi G.Aloe,
    Thank you.

    1. We will add css to hide the buttons initially.
    2. Ok. next release 🙂
    3. Thank you. We can certainly add that as an option.

    4. We do want to work on it but there are some issue.
    – The media can be uploaded from activity and in this case we do think that deleting activity should delete the media
    – The gallery uploaded media can be published to activity, in this case, we believe activity does not have primary importance and we should not delete the media on activity delete.

Making a balance without confusion the user is difficult here, Please do let me know if you have some suggestions.

    5. Yes, this is definitely coming now. We have been promising it for long and I have started working on it, so yes, It will come within next 4-6 weeks.

    6. Sorry, It’s a mistake on my part, next release will allow public and logged in status on gallery. Currently, It is hardcoded to public.

    7. Thank you. I do understand that it may be useful but we won’t be adding anything like this to core. It is most suitable as an addon plugin. I will explore this option with my team and will let you know.

Thank you again. Except 7, I can assure that all other suggestion are coming to the core 🙂

    Hi, Another thing.

I have found a “bug”. I don’t know why, but the mediapress affects the [readmore] link on the comment added under an activity post. I tested only posts with pictures attached, until now.

It seems that there is tag not properly closed.

I add a long comment. Then, I make a refresh. The result is that I get something like this:

    5. Sorry, It’s a mistake on my part, next release will allow public and logged…#activity-829" rel="nofollow">[Read more]

    —–

I have seen also another bug that affect the humburger menu on the woocommerce canvas theme menu on the mobile page sizing.

Maybe you cannot reproduce it. But is caused by the mediapress.

ONLY when you open the buddypress activity page on mobile sizing (max-width: 600px) the menu is not properly positioned.

    Hi

    4. We do want to work on it but there are some issue.
    – The media can be uploaded from activity and in this case we do think that deleting activity should delete the media
    – The gallery uploaded media can be published to activity, in this case, we believe activity does not have primary importance and we should not delete the media on activity delete.

    This is good for me.

Because the cleaning of the BuddyPress posts comes from the deleting of the Activity Posts. Just like BuddyPress allow to do using the admin interface.

So, if I post on the activity stream and I delete the post, this will delete the image also form the gallery. that is good.

If I upload images to any gallery. It is a different process that could not directly involve the Activity Stream, even if the notification of the upload is showed like a post in the activty stream.

    Hi G.Aloe,
    Thank you.

I am going to look at both and offer a fix.

For canvas theme, I will give it a try. It could be a css conflict. Will let you know tomorrow what I find about the conflict.

    Thank you
    Brajesh

    New thing.

If a user publishes a post in the Site-Wide Activity Stream adding images when people add comments, clicking on the notification link they are sent to the gallery of the user who published the post.

The url is something like this:
    ../mediapress/wall-photo-gallery-2/?nid=2740#activity-9894

So, why is the user not redirected to the post in the activity stream?

I tried this in this situation:

    > The user added a post + images in the buddypress activity stream.
    > I added a comment.
    > > He answered to the comment – [on this level, I clicked to the notification and I was redirected to the user gallery]

    Plugin Author Brajesh Singh

    (@sbrajesh)

    Hi,
That is intended action. What will we show on the single activity page. Without gallery, I am not sure if it makes much sense.

If you do want to have the single activity page, I will put an option to disable the redirect.

Also, My apologies for the delay in release. I will be devoting the weekend in adding the fearures and release by Monday.

    regards
    Brajesh

    Hi,
If you had the option to get the single activity page that shows the comments, it will be great.

I have seen also that the redirect to the gallery and not to the single activity page keep the notification like always “Non-Read” and not as “Read”.

It is important that you fix soon the problem of the [read more] on comments. It impacts the users. They are not able to read the hidden part of the comment.

Another strange thing that I am experiencing is this:

I upload images. Then during the upload, I write my post. If I spend too much time to complete the post because it is long etc. When I push the Post Button. The post is published without images. Then I have to republish it again. So, I start with a copy and paste of the written post, upload again the images and publish the post in a short time. In the second tentative the publishing happens with success.

    Kind regards

    Hi,
the problem with the comments described here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/feature-request-dont-publish-the-post-if-images-are-still-in-loading/#post-9504922

… really needs a fixing. it is one of the worst visible bugs.

Two things have a negative impact on the users at the moment:

1 – the problem with the comment explained
2 – the impossibility to open the mediapress post when a user receives a notification for a new comment.

These 2 things are pure fastidious for the users.

    Please work on these things.

    Kind regards

    Hi G. Aloe,
I am very sorry I got caught up in some other work and could not release the plugin.

I have already included some of your suggestions in the current github repo. I am going to find some time and release the plugin in next 5-7 days with all the fixes.

    Thank you
    Brajesh

Hi, it seems that the new release doesn’t fix the bug in comments and the “activity post url”.

    I hope for the future.

    Hi G. Aloe,
Thank you. I was about to reply here but just noted your comment a few seconds ago.

The new release has improved the comment but It still needs more work. I was able to have a few of your valuable suggestions included in it like disabling post button etc.

We are working on it to streamline comment and add the remote media. I can assure some more pleasant updates soon(Except for the next point release coming in 1-2 days).

    Thank you
    Brajesh

    Hi,
please restore the original BuddyPress Link when people open a MediaPress Posts in the BuddyPress Stream. It causes a lot of stress. People see that like a BUG.

    This cause a problem:
    xxxx/members/juan/mediapress/wall-photo-gallery-5/#activity-11469

    Please restore this:
    xxxx/members/juan/activity/11469

When a Buddypress post with images gets a comment, people cannot find the comment, because the link redirects to the full gallery which completely unuseful.

Please, fix the problem with the comments below the MediaPress Posts in the BuddyPress Stream.

This is a problem. Because of this, I have to answer people making a new post and not adding a comment to their question:

    5. Sorry, It’s a mistake on my part, next release will allow public and logged…#activity-829" rel="nofollow">[Read more]

Please, these are relevant problems because they are basilar things that have a strong negative impact on the users.

    Kind regards

    G.Aloe

I have an extra detail about the problem with the HTML tags in the comments.

    > The BUG is visible in the BuddyPress Activity Stream.

But it is not visible on the Post Page when I open it by the standard Buddypress Post url

    Hi G.Aloe,

    5. The logged in status for the Directory is supported now. Any gallery with the logged in/public status will appear on directory.

About comments:- We are completely rewriting it. The experience is not good for the activity comments on media and it is already in works. The issue you are facing is a simple filter and I can assist you in removing the filter.

I am hoping to base 1.4 release around comment improvements.

    Regards
    Brajesh

The logged in status is not a concrete problem. I don’t know how it can affect the wrong URL that causes a very stressful problem for all the users.

    This cause a problem:
    xxxx/members/juan/mediapress/wall-photo-gallery-5/#activity-11469

    Please restore this:
    xxxx/members/juan/activity/11469

I don’t know if this will be fixed with the rewriting of the code for the comments
