Support » Plugin: Gutenberg Ramp » Feature Request: Disable Try Gutenberg Callout

  • Resolved Nathan Ingram

    Hi folks, thanks for creating this plugin. I believe it’s the best plugin currently for managing the Gutenberg transition for those of us managing many websites for clients.

    Do you have plans to have a setting that will disable the “Try Gutenberg” callout that’s slated for WP 4.9.8?

    It would seem to make sense to disable the callout by default, since Gutenberg is disabled by default with this plugin. And I LOVE that your default setting is disabling Gutenberg sitewide.

    That’s a great question Nathan. Leave it with me and I’ll speak to the VIP team about this.

    I’ll post back shortly when I have an answer.

    Meantime, I’ve added this to the enhancements list on Github –

    I’ve taken a look at the proposed code change for this banner ( and it appears that it won’t appear if you have Gutenberg installed, active or otherwise…

    if ( current_user_can( 'install_plugins' ) && empty( $plugins['gutenberg/gutenberg.php'] ) ) {

    As I can’t imagine why you’d want to run Ramp without Gutenberg, does this mean such an enhancement would therefore be redundant? What do you think Nathan?

    My plan is to have Gutenberg Ramp installed on all the client sites I manage prior to Gutenberg’s release in order to disable Gutenberg proactively.

    What I’d love to be able to do is install Ramp on these sites now in order to disable the nag so that clients will not download Gutenberg and experiment on their live sites. That’s not going to end well.

    Ah, got it. Thanks for the clarification.

    Yeah, it makes sense for that change then. So, right now, it’s on a list of enhancements but no ETA for it – obviously, if lots of users upvote for it, we make look at it sooner rather than later. There’s also the fact that the code for WP 4.9.8 is not yet finalised so we’ll need to take a cautious approach to putting out anything early.

    I’ll keep this open and we’ll update you with any progress.

    Thanks David. Now starting massive social campaign for upvotes 🙂
