I second this. I would like to use the plugin but I also want to disable Gravatar use.
I discussed this feature with the plugin author and also the ability to add a filesize limit to uploads and he said that we is working on it. The thread is here:

Although this was a while ago and I have not heard any updates from him. We are still holding off and waiting for an update to this plugin instead of choosing alternatives simply because it is well designed when considering performance, something that is important for high trafficed sites.
I hope that the plugin author comes through.
As do I. This is by the far the best user avatar plugin Most of the other avatar plugins are either too nebulous to configure or simply non-functional. Avatar Manager is simple and straight-forward, but having the option of disabling the Gravatar is critical. Hopefully this plugin will be updated soon.
Hello guys,
Due to time constraints, I’ve been unable to respond to all support and feature requests in the last period of time.
I’ve been flattered by the level of interest and positive feedback in Avatar Manager so far. Thanks for your patience and I’ll be sure to update everyone when I have some good news.
Some features, including this one, are currently under development. I’ll try to get back to you with more details as soon as possible (hopefully in the next few days).
Best regards,
Cătălin
