# Feature request: disable automatic embed

 * I’m pasting a link, but the block editor is converting it to an embed. I’d prefer
   not having to mess with themes or plugins.

 * Although this does not meet your request, I recommend that you avoid pasting 
   a link at the beginning of a block.
 * Type words that describe the destination, select them, and paste the address 
   on those words to create the link. If people need to see a full link address,
   however, you could type a space before pasting the link and then click the “Link”
   button to make it clickable.
 * My attempt to disable the embed block(s) without a plugin was ultimately unsuccessful.
   I could [uncheck the Embeds blocks](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/27835#issuecomment-1217453369)
   from Preferences, but then:
    1. the editor failed to paste a link at the beginning
   of the paragraph block, and 2. at least videos can still embed as they did with
   the previous editor.
