Feature request
-
Just paid for the plugin after having a go with it on MAMP testing environment. It is almost perfect. Kudos to the developers. But it could use a Featured Post section. Preferably customizable between options like grid, slider or what not 🙂
Hope that’s not too much to ask.

Hi,
Thanks for the purchase and glad you like the plugin.
Can you provide a bit more detail as to what you are describing? How and where would a “Featured Posts” section be shown? How would the featured posts be chosen?
If this is a content or widget related feature request then it may not be theme specific and there will probably already be lots of plugins that already provide this functionality.
Let us know!
Thanks,
Oliver
Hi Oliver.
Thank you for the quick response. Really appreciate it. By featured post I do mean pinning selected post at the top of the first blog page in a specific layout, such as, for example, a slider or grid. It is choose by a predefined tag, such as “featured” for example.
Yeah, it is true it is theme-specific. Previously, when I was using Twenty Fourteen, someone did came up with a plug-in that enables further customization like this plug-in is doing but with the option of activating Featured Post.
Will you guys be able to do it in future?
I understand there are plug-in that does that but TBH, not a lot and most of them requires modifying the functions.php manually. Believe me, I have been searching since last week and already, I am creating child theme just for this purpose. But I would rather not do that if your plug-in could do it. Just a thought.
Thank you!
Hi again,
Previously, when I was using Twenty Fourteen, someone did came up with a plug-in that enables further customization like this plug-in is doing but with the option of activating Featured Post.
Would you by any chance remember the plugin you mention for Twenty Fourteen? We can then see exactly what you mean so we have a better idea of exactly what you are wanting from Twenty Nineteen.
Once we know more we will be able to develop something similar (or better :))
Oliver
Hi Oliver, I believe the plug-in was called Fourteen Extended. I also believe the developer has ditched it a few years ago.
Here’s the link to it: http://wpdefault.com/fourteen-extended/
OK, we’ll take a look and get back to you.
Oliver
Hi, OK, so this is a Jetpack thing. We’ve started the process and the upgraded plugin now enables support for Jetpack’s Featured Content on activation.
It’s a start. What next? 🙂
Oliver
Please note that this update has only added Customiser support for Featured Content.
Sadly Twenty Nineteen doesn’t have a hook between get_header() and the content so the only way to inject the featured content (and put it in the right place) without modifying the theme itself will be to use get_header (or another hook) and then to use some Javascript on the client’s browser to move the featured content to the correct location (we suspect this will be just before “<section id=”primary” class=”content-area”>”).
We are double checking a few things to make sure there’s no other option and will let you know when there’s another update.
Oliver
Hi Oliver,
Once again, really appreciate you taking time to look into my suggested feature. Yeah, I noted the latest update. The thing is, I try to avoid using Jetpack, but if that’s the way to go, I may have to. In any case, I will wait for your further update.
Thank you so much, Oliver! 🙂
I’m afraid that “Featured Content” is a Jetpack thing. That plugin you used for Twenty Fourteen was making use of it.
We don’t use Jetpack either which is why we have quite a lot of users in these forums asking for Jetpack related features or reporting Jetpack related bugs.
Oliver
Strange. I do not have Jetpack installed when using the previous plug-in.
I sincerely hope such a feature could be implemented in future. Just a hopeful thought 🙂
I’ll have a test with the plugin you mention to see if it requires Jetpack to be installed. Featured Content is definitely a Jetpack addition, however.
We’re working on getting the content into the front page and will let you know when this is ready for you to test.
Oliver
Oh, I see. OK. Thank you for following up on this.
Seriously, I should really give you major hug! 😉
Hi Mike,
OK more information (and progress).
So it looks like Twenty Fourteen added their own options for Featured Content. These were in the “Dashboard – Settings – Reading” panel. I don’t think the Customiser was a thing back then.
I suspect that Jetpack took this Twenty Fourteen theme feature and rolled it out as a Jetpack feature, making use of the Customiser for choosing the featured content tag, and other options.
So … we’ve just pushed an update to the plugin which now injects featured content (if it exists) at the top of the Front Page by using a hook and some Javascript.
Next I’m going to look to see what we can do with it (grid, slider, etc). Twenty Nineteen theme does not use jQuery on the front end so without adding it, we may be a little restricted with regards to sliders.
Let me know what you think of the injected content so far.
Oliver
Thank you, Oliver. Sorry for the late replied. The Featured Content is a good start, but without grid or slider, it is not obvious they are in fact Featured Content. Hope to hear some awesome news from you soon! 🙂
Yes, sorry this is taking a while. I promise I’ll get it done soon!
Oliver
