hi – i’d like to ask if you might be willing to expand the capability slightly so that visitors could be notified when a page (not post) is updated?

i can perhaps provide some ideas as to how this might best be implemented if interested

Yes just give some ideas then I can lookin to the possibilities. Please also think what it would with other people using STC

    thanks for the reply

so the object i have in mind is to fill a gap in WP where readers can be notified when a page is updated without having to make a new post and this is not possible via RSS (absent a plugin perhaps, but not everyone uses RSS)

i think a simple label, name field, email field and a submit button would be needed that can be auto-inserted globally (all pages) at page top/bottom via an option or manually via shortcode

in the editor, a checkbox could be added which could be used to manually insert the form, or override insertion if the auto-insert option in settings is enabled

the only purpose for the name field would be so that a {name} variable could be used in the email template to personalize the mail

CSS could be external provided classes/id’s are added

something would need to be done so that a minor page update (fixing a typo) doesn’t trigger mails – perhaps this might require a second checkbox in the editor (‘notify subscribers’ or whatever)

I think if you have enabled the Gutenberg Editor and also the Resend post checkbox. If you use the gutenberg as page editor you would get just that. As I’m in the hospital I cannot look in to this. If it is not in there a new shortcode will do the trick

hi @vandestouwe – i don’t use, nor wish to use the Gutenberg editor

Strange it is the default editor. It might confuse you it is now also called the Block Editor

i know it’s the default editor, and there are millions of people that either hate it (me) or hate the idea that WP shoved it down our throats

i was one of the more than 5 million people (possibly many more) that disabled the thing

Just go to the admin settings and uncheck the button and you will free from the Gutenberg editor.

how does that solve the topic of this thread; feature: notify on page update

the point to my opening this issue was to request a function whereby readers have the option to be notified when a particular page is updated – you indicated here that a you may have to add a new shortcode in order to accomplish that

I need to investigate how to pickup a changed page. I need to hook in to wp page update. A admin setting would then enable / disable sending a page update notification.
Also a function subscribe te a page must be created analog to subscribe to a post.

I think it is an enhancement to STC but it might be some work of wich I’m keen to do. I will first release a version with bugfixes and then will start designing your page notification

great – thank you so much!

As this feature was intended to run under ClassicPress and the current version of STC is not compatible with ClassicPress this feature will not be implemented until somebody running a current version of WP is asking for this kind of functionality.
