Hi twellibaum,
thanks for reaching out.
There was no change in the plugin that I could think of that could break image URLs. If you did some customizations on image URLs or used a plugin then please look at this thread.
If you don’t use a customization like described there then you are the first user experiencing such a problem and it might be a conflict with another plugin. Could I ask you to test that by disabling other plugins one after the other?
Thanks,
Thomas
Thanks for the reply, Thomas!
Seems to be the Autoptimize plugin.
Strange on some posts there is no problem, on others the featured images are not showing. Everything is fine when I deactivate either your plugin or Autoptimize.
Best
Johannes
Hi Johannes,
thanks for your reply. Where can I find a post where it is working and one where it doesn’t? I looked at the first posts on your site and the featured image showed up fine.
Thanks,
Thomas
I’ll be happy to assist troubleshooting if needed.

@optimizingmatters thanks for offering your help.
My suspicion is that the change we made to fix https://wordpress.org/support/topic/advanced-ads-breaks-image-urls/. Are you using any of the mentioned filters in Autoptimize?
Thanks,
Thomas
@webzunft no, AO does not use pre_option_upload_path
or pre_option_upload_url_path
.
@twellibaum maybe also test what in AO is breaking the images as well by just disabling CSS or JS or Image optimization (incl. lazyload)? based on that we can see what the next steps would be.
@twellibaum do you know how to access the browser console and check it for errors when both plugins are enabled? That could help us.
Thanks,
Thomas
Hi @twellibaum,
we were able to see an older version of your site and have an idea about what happened.
There seems to be an impartial Google Ad Manager code in the sidebar, which causes a JavaScript error.
That error is only causing other JavaScript to fail when Autoptimize is enabled.
The problem is not within any plugin but just in the ad code. If you know which ad I am referring to then please disable it and let me know if that helps. If it does then please check if you load the correct header code for Google Ad Manager.
Thanks,
Thomas
OK, so assuming said JS code is inline, unticking “also aggregate inline JS” should fix the problem when AO is active.

That did the trick, thank you guys for your excellent support!
