Right now, the plugin only works with Pages. For many (maybe even most) WordPress installs, Excerpts on Pages will only work once you install the plugin.
Take a look at the third question on the FAQ. Sometimes the field is hidden at first and must be shown through the screen options.
I’m not that familiar with Headway and I don’t know if it’s been used on Headway, but it’s possible that it could be interfering.
Let me know if you can find it on Screen Options and then we’ll proceed from there.

Many thanks for your prompt reply. I have installed it and it worked straight away – so you can chalk Headway up as a theme that plays well with your widget. Looks great!
