Support » Fixing WordPress » Fatal error when trying to (re)activate a plugin

  • Hi,

I deactivated Simple Google Sitemap XML plugin cause it was causing me trouble when working on my website. Now I wanted to re-activate it and I get this:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Warning: fopen(/home/xxxxx/domains/ [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/xxxxxx/domains/ on line 34

Any idea why it happens and how to fix it?

It’s possible that your hosts have refused to allow access to the fopen function. Have you asked them about this?

They said it’s a normal security thing and that I can change it myself… I’m not sure I understood their instructions well but I changed all permissions concerning this (ones of WP content, config.php, plugins etc.) to 777 for the time being and it worked.

If anyone is reading this cause they have a similar problem and are a newbee like me, after you finish make sure you put the permissions back to how they were.
