Fatal error message when trying to log in after upgrading WP

I updated the site to wp3.4.2.
Here’s the error message I’m getting when trying to log in to the admin panel. There’s no login screen.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function locate_template() in /home/sitename/public_html/wp-includes/general-template.php on line 128

    Any ideas how to fix?

Try change to your basic twwenty eleven themes and see if the problem still persist or not.

Please disable or delete all plugins and switch to the default theme (TwentyEleven since 3.3). After making these changes does the problem still occur? If no, re-enable everything one by one to see which component causes the problem.

To disable the active theme rename the themes folder using ftp then browse to your-domain.tld/wp-admin/themes.php

This will force the default theme to activate.
