I updated the site to wp3.4.2.
Here's the error message I'm getting when trying to log in to the admin panel. There's no login screen.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function locate_template() in /home/sitename/public_html/wp-includes/general-template.php on line 128

    Any ideas how to fix?

Try change to your basic twwenty eleven themes and see if the problem still persist or not.

i can't log in to do that. I'm not using a basic them.

  4. Please disable or delete all plugins and switch to the default theme (TwentyEleven since 3.3). After making these changes does the problem still occur? If no, re-enable everything one by one to see which component causes the problem.

To disable the active theme rename the themes folder using ftp then browse to your-domain.tld/wp-admin/themes.php

This will force the default theme to activate.
