Personally, I would redownload WordPress from this site, then use FTP to upload everything except the wp-content folder. Unfortunately FTP or file manager would be the only way to sort – I doubt it could be done without this.
Hopefully that would add any missing files and get you back up and running.
Phil, thanks for getting back to me. Can you tell me what ANY of that error message means? I assume a web developer/server operator would understand that, correct?
@willbrogan: What the error message means is that a function with the same name exists in two different files (which is not allowed in PHP).
And the reason why two different functions with the same name exist in this case is that the /wp-includes/query.php
file which currently exists on your server is from an older version of WordPress (4.4.2 or lower), but the wp-includes/deprecated.php
file is from the newer version of WordPress (4.5 or higher).
In other words, based on the error message, the update did not finish properly, as it indicates that the files on your server are a mixture from two different versions of WordPress (instead of all being from the same version).
That’s a huge help to understand this on my level, thank you!!
@girlieworks Have you got a answer to finish the update or to access of the wordpress board?
@willbrogan Have you succeed to opening your website?
I have the same problem with the same error
Sorry for my approximative english 🙁
@florentdevauchel: The answer is in Phil‘s post above.
@willbrogan: You’re welcome!
No success yet. My main problem lies in the fact that the web admin that set it up is no longer a part of the company (he’s actually the President’s nephew), but he still has the creds to the FTP, Server, host, etc. It was never a big deal until this happened.
I get everything said here on a conceptual level, and if it was on a server/host that I’m used to (I use GoDaddy for everything else), I could do it. But until I have access, I’m totally stuck!
Thanks all for your help everyone, it really has helped me grasp this and will (eventually) help me get it fixed.
