• Installation of Akeeba Backup went smoothly. However, any attempt to Network Activate it is met with this error message:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

No indication of what the error is.
This is on a new server, following a fresh install of Apache and all applications, fresh install of WordPress Multisite and fresh install of Akeeba:

    • WordPress (Multisite) 5.2.2
    • Akeeba Core 3.6.0
    • PHP 7.3.8
    • Max memory is set to 256M.

Akeeba’s website states that this version is compatible with our version of PHP and with WordPress 5.2.2. Any idea where I should start looking?
(There is no Akeeba support forum on wordpress.org.)
    Thanks.

I solved this by simply copying the plugin’s folder directly to the WordPress plugins directory. This was necessary because the installer always unpacks the .zip file improperly. Whether that is the fault of WordPress or of Akeeba, I will never know.
