Fatal Error from Dashboard (2 posts)

I replied to another post about this very thing, but I want to make sure it's easy to find as well...

I just got this error when trying to upgrade via Dashboard (hosted by MediaTemple):

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Plugin_Upgrader in .../wp-admin/includes/class-wp-upgrader.php on line 632

Is there some way to get around this to get the installation to work? A note: I am using the default theme to which I added a little CSS.

    - switching to the default Twenty Twelve theme (if you're not using it already) by renaming your current theme's folder inside wp-content/themes and adding "-old" to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    - re-uploading all files & folders - except the wp-content folder - from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    - running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php
