• I am running version 3 of wordpress (I can’t remember the exact point release). I just clicked on auto update in the dashboard and I was presented with the “your site is down for maintainance” boilerplate. A few minutes later and I get this error:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Walker_Page in /home/gkp99/garrypettet.com/wp-includes/post-template.php on line 1060

Now I can’t view my site or even go to the dashboard! I’m completely locked out! How can I undo what’s happened!!

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-running the upgrade manually using /wp-admin/upgrade.php.

    Thanks for the response esmi.

I’ve disabled plugins with phpMyAdmin and renamed all theme folders except twenty ten to no avail.

I get the same error if I visit wp-admin/upgrade.php. Do I need to download a fresh copy of that file?

Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Then re-running the upgrade manually using /wp-admin/upgrade.php.

    Hello,
I’m having a similar problem with a new WordPress site I’m working on for a client. Whenever I try to upgrade WordPress, themes, or plugins, I get the following messages:

    Downloading update from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/all-in-one-seo-pack.zip…
    Unpacking the update…
    Installing the latest version…
Removing the old version of the plugin…
Could not remove the old plugin.
    Plugin upgrade failed.

Or “Could not remove old theme, etc.” Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Thanks,

    Faye Oney

Thanks esmi – that worked a treat. For anyone else reading this, make sure to backup your database and disable any funny plugins you may have first!

    Emsi Thanks YOU!!!!

For those who have this happen to them.

Try the steps of restoring files and databases (IF you hosting does it or if you made a backup)

Then try the theme name change (didn’t work for me)

Finally download a fresh copy of wordpress and upload everything EXCEPT the wp-content folder (really important not to!!!)

Got the same problem and it was fixed uploading a fresh copy of WordPress.

Thank you for the tip guys.

What do you do if none of the above works….?

I see that several people have had this problem with their upgrades.

I’ve followed the advice on several forums to delete plugins, upload a new twentyten theme and rename it default, and to download a fresh copy of wordpress and reupload the admin and includes folders.

Still, after all of this, I continue to get this error, both on the admin page and the admin/upgrade page:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Walker_Page in /home/peterber/public_html/wp-includes/post-template.php on line 1067

Has anyone found another solution to this problem when these other methods haven’t solved it?
