Support » Fixing WordPress » Fatal Error- failed update- never used FTP- eek!

  • I have been helping my boss with his website- pacie.org for about a week.
Today there was a yellow bar at the top of the screen telling me to update- I don’t remember to which version exactly.
I checked “automatic” update, then an error popped up.

Now, when I go to ANY page on the site or try to log on, I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined method Arras_Widget_Tag_Cloud::WP_Widget_Tag_Cloud()in/data/25/2/23/81/2512081/user/2751719/htdocs/wpcontent/themes/arras/library/widgets.php on line 404

I’ve gathered from other articles that this means that the update did not download completely. Other articles say that I need to do a manual update via an FTP client. None of the original construction for the site was done via FTP- it was all done on the website. Would that mean I would overwrite everything that’s already there?

Backups? Probably not. We’ll live. I just want to get this site going again.

THANK YOU! I AM FREAKING OUT

  • It means there’s a problem with your the Arras theme. Are you using the most current version?

You WILL need to use FTP to fix this kind of problem. Where is the site hosted? You’ll need to get FTP info from them – and then rename the theme’s folder – so you can login again:

    wp-content
         themes
             arras.HOLD

Hey- Network Solutions. And no, I do not believe we were using the most recent version- no updates had been done in ages.
