• Hi everybody,

I was about to install the latest version (3.9.1) manually but something went wrong.

I can’t log in any more and can not see the dashboard.
The only thing I get is this message:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_users_drafts() (previously declared in /www/htdocs/w00b2d53/wp-admin/includes/user.php:242) in /www/htdocs/w00b2d53/wp-admin/admin-db.php on line 9

At least the blog is still running.
Has anybody experienced this kind of error and can help me what to do?

    Thanks a lot

  • Older versions of WordPress had the get_users_drafts() in a different location. Looks like the manual update wasn’t complete and residual files from an older version are still present on the server. This is creating a conflict as a function name can only be defined once.

You will want to make a backup and then follow the update process here: Updating_WordPress#Step_1:_Replace_WordPress_files. Pay particular attention to 4. Delete the old wp-includes and wp-admin directories on your web host .

In the future, it’s best to use the one-click update function within the WordPress dashboard. That update method is designed to make sure all residual older files are deleted and eliminates the possibility of a hiccup in the FTP process causing you grief.
