Support » Fixing WordPress » Fatal error: Cannot redeclare __popular_posts()

  • I am new to WordPress and have just installed version 3.0.1 and the plugin Akismet. I downloaded a few Themes in order to choose one to customize. I activated the first theme ok but when I tried activating any of the others I received Fatal error: Cannot redeclare. I then tried to open my Dashboard and received:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare __popular_posts() (previously declared in /homepages/8/d100460064/htdocs/WordPress/wordpress/wp-content/themes/eve088/functions.php:1492) in /homepages/8/d100460064/htdocs/WordPress/wordpress/wp-content/themes/eve088/functions.php on line 1711

Can anyone help me understand what is happening and help me get out of this impasse?

  • It looks like the function __popular_posts() already exists somewhere. Try enabling the default theme first, then enabling this theme. Also try clearing your cache and reloading.

Thanks for the suggestion. Clearing the cache didn’t help.
Does anyone have any more advice?
