The quota notice disappeared and so did the error.
So maybe it really has to do with exceeding the quota.
Notice about quota and fatal error again.
Notice without error only on main network site.
On other sites there is fatal error pasted earlier.
It looks like problem with exceeding the quota on multisite installation…

Yes, problem persist without others plugins.
We are unable to replicate this issue, so I guess there is something unique in your installation that is triggering this. Can you think of something? Maybe you have no images at all?
I have images and fatal error is displayed only when I exceeding the quota and only on subsites in network.
