I am getting this fatal error after updating my menu today:

Fatal error: Can’t use method return value in write context in /home4/fletch/public_html/wp-content/plugins/food-and-drink-menu/includes/class-custom-post-types.php on line 452

This is on all pages of my domain, so I can’t even login to my WP admin to try and resolve.

    Please help!

    Hi truse,

That sounds like you are using version 5.4 or earlier of PHP. 5.4 is quite old now and doesn’t allow the arguments that are passed in empty(). We’ll look into making that function compatible with older versions of PHP. In the meantime, you may want to consider either upgrading to a newer version of PHP (not only just so that this works, but also to make sure your site remains compatible with all other plugins/theme you are using and for security reasons) or downgrading to version 1.7.2 of the plugin.

Instructions for how to upgrade your version of PHP can usually be found in the knowledge base or FAQs of your hosting provider’s website. A general how-to can be found here: https://magazine.joomla.org/issues/issue-may-2016/item/3033-how-to-upgrade-your-website-php-version

To go back to version 1.7.2 of our plugin, I suggest using a plugin called WP Rollback. It’s quicker and easier than trying to overwrite the files yourself via FTP.
