    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder
   using [FTP](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients) (or use whatever file management
   application your host provides)
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
 * – re-running the upgrade [manually](http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress).

   seems rather common.

 * I’ve just rolled back to 2.9.2 still same error.

 * I had the same problem yesterday evening having tried to upgrade for the first
   time. It doesn’t do a lot for your confidence when having never done an upgrade
   before and it has to be done manually, it didn’t work!!
    Luckily I took a full
   copy of all the files and just installed 2.9.2 back and everything was fine. 
   Is this a major problem or just a few users?

 * wildthyme – When you ran the upgrade manually, did you delete the wp-admin and
   wp-includes folders first? Sometimes an overlay upgrade kills a file (This is
   common in ANY upgrade of any app, BTW)

 * while i am installing wordpress for the firt time it shows the error as below
   after i renamed the file wp-config-sample.php as wp-config.php
 * “Fatal error: Call to undefined function set_magic_quotes_runtime() in C:\AppServ\
   www\wordpress1\wp-settings.php on line 18”
