• We have a medium-large eCom site, WooCommerce based with lots of plugins and extra security hardening plugins, as well as CloudFlare and WP Rocket for caching/speed.
So naturally, I was hesitant using this plugin as our site is complex, intricate and has an old The7 theme (too much work redoing entire website layouts, CSS childtheme etc for upgrade) and hence old WC prior to version 3, as old theme does not support new WC.

Our checkout ceased functioning in past week so some solution needed at minimal time cost to me…. So I finally got my courage to test the staging plugin 🙂

Our security environment: We use WP-SpamShield, Security Headers, iThemes Security (only on this old site, as it has ongoing security vulnerabilities in its code we stopped using this plugin on all our other sites), Block Bad Queries (BBQ), Blackhole for Bad Bots, 404 Solution.
Speed improvement plugins: CAOS for Analytics, Heartbeat Control (the latter 2 we gave up on other sites in favor of Clearfy plugin which handles these and many security and other WP SEO and speed/other optimizations), WP Rocket.

At first, no surprise, I got error 500 on staging login page, so had to go from cPanel file manager and rename with an underscrore one security plugin after another and the caching as well for good measure. Then I saw the login but still got no way to login – ‘need to enable cookies/Javascript/ check internet connection/ server not connected’ type of messages.

Finally, after renaming (to disable) my WP-SpamShield premium plugin folder in cPanel (BTW, best ever way to protect all logins and forms, comments, cart checkouts etc from spam bots with no false positives to date on our eCom site and very lite plugin. We discarded the Akismet in its favor, worth the small fee) all worked fine, what a relief.

Thought I’d mention the troubles in case someone as security conscious as we are has similar issues!

Great plugin, sorted out an issue with our checkout not working…. And all this without needing to place live site under maintenance mode for hours!

Wow! Thank you so much for your excellent review. If you don’t mind I am going to use your review on our website?

That reminds me that we really have to implement a notice to exclude security plugins from the cloning process:-)

I wish you a pleasant day

    Cheers
    René
