Fancy Features, Misses Functionality
-
I have WP Tabs Pro (paid version) on two websites, and it offers a long list of impressive presentation features. However, it misses many essential functionality components, including tab creation and ease-of-use features. This plugin is inefficient for large websites with thousands, and worse with tens of thousands of products. Although the developer claims to be working on improvements, nothing has been presented in the last 4 months. Here are some detailed points:
- No support for product BRAND. This includes the default WooCommerce brands, or other more popular brand plugins (Perfect Brands for example).
- Inability to add or edit tabs at the product level (every other competitive plugin has this feature). This is a HUGE PROBLEM. Then, if WP Tabs Pro had this functionality, the user should be allowed to add GLOBAL (Saved) tabs to specific products at the product page.
- The search query used to add items to “specific products” list cannot handle searching for more than 1,000 SKUs, and breaks (see additional notes below).
- The search results are incomplete and presented in a confusing sequence. For example, if I enter a “keyword” with a known number of results, I should expect to see all results. Instead, multiple query entry variations are required to find every product associated with the search. Sometimes, it completely ignores the entry or provides invalid or incomplete results. The only way to verify that each product has the proper tab(s) linked is to have a printed list or open each product to find missed ones.
- This search function accepts keywords, but it ignores the Product SKU. This plugin is for “product tabs.” How can the query ignore the SKU? In fact, it provides inaccurate results when entering the SKU, ignoring the search entry. A search for a complete or partial SKU should show all of the SKUs that include the entry. The search query should include SKU as well as “content” within the product details.
- The window size on the Woo Tab Settings page is too small, restricting the working space. Operation requires constant scrolling of different sections for visibility, and I’m on a 49″ (1.245m) monitor. An annoying workaround is to shrink the zoom level considerably below 100%.
- Adding and editing product selections for a New or Existing Tab is astonishingly problematic. There is no identifier for these tabs. Combine this with the search difficulty mentioned above, and this becomes a mess. This can be found in Woo Tab Settings > Additional Tabs. The user has to click on each group to identify which tabs are associated with it. If we have dozens or hundreds of these, good luck finding the one that requires editing. This page requires a note or customizable identifier field and should have a search function.
I did not want to make this review. I was hoping for more attention; the last developer response was from February. Unfortunately, I’m having to test competitive plugins to address the limitations of WP Tabs Pro.
