  • To say….30 seconds? How was that 5 minute install accounted for? Is it including the average time it takes to create the db, upload files etc?

From my own experience, excluding the db setup and the uploading of files, the whole thing is about….a click? Even uploading the files doesn’t take that long – creating the db – less than a minute.

    Just curious that’s all 🙂

  • It is meant, I believe, as a joke. I think the devs are just having a little bit of funny with first time installers. I remember when I first installed it and was like what’s next, then I realized that would be post a article.

I would consider it an educated guess for the time from uploading the files to your first post. But there is a bit of humor in it, as well.

Hey, I’m still looking for step 3!

I think the 5 minutes includes the part where you have to download the source (on a slow connection) and create the wp-config.php file.

In my experience, some people have voiced very strong feelings that the five minute install is like a taunt. Not everyone has had the experience of a fast install. I know that my first install of WordPress wasn’t done in five minutes. In reality, it is an estimate of how long it might take assuming no problems. Calling it a one minute install might really raise the ire of some folks who run into problems.

First install yesterday, took < 4 minutes including db setup (with phpmyadmin on hsphere). So far I’m completely in love and already paying someone to do the template work I don’t have time for. I’m very excited and looking forward to launching in just a few DAYS…not weeks, not a month or more, DAYS. I could cry.
