A little red number still sits on the Plugins link in Dashboard, but none of the plugins actually need updating. Happens across several sites I manage, all using 4.7.3. Now, a second site is experiencing the same thing. It happened both times while uninstalling and reinstalling plugins while attempting to diagnose which plugins were causing errors. I’m sure it’s leftover plugin data in the database. Someone has the answer out here.
