  • Hey @tomcoady.

    Thanks for contacting support.

It appears that EAN may be a valid GTIN 14, but it does not appear to be a valid EAN. Check here: https://www.getnewidentity.com/validate-ean.php – that EAN validator claims the EAN is incorrect.

Did this product id “05055386199720” actually work when listing to Amazon?

As far as I recall, EANs need to be 13 digits while UPC codes need to be 12 digits when listing to Amazon. This forum post re-iterates that Amazon needs a 12 digit UPC or 13 digit EAN: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/forums/t/how-do-i-upload-items-with-14-digit-gtin-number/181101

If you remove the leading “0” it works in the EAN validator though: “5055386199720” so I would suggest you try without the leading 0.

    Kind regards,
    John

    Thanks John
This code was copied from an amazon error message about a barcode mismatch. For some reason Amazon have added the leading zero to my original code and my experience shows that amazon accepts these 14 digit EAN codes when submitted as uniquely corresponding the accompanying SKU number.

    Hey Tom.

    Thanks for the update.

Alright, no problem. If you find those 14 digit product ID codes do work when used with a unique SKU, then great. But at least in the example you provided in this thread, what I stated still appears to be the case.

You should definitely ask Amazon why they are adding leading 0’s to your EAN codes though.

    Kind regards,
    John

Here is the reply from amazon:

I would like to inform you that EAN is 13 number and but sometimes it starts with zero which is not counted. However you can create your item either 13 digit EAN number or with zero+13 digit number.

To know more about it, please read the following help page: https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/G200211450

So it sounds like the leading zero is just discarded.

    Hey @tomcoady.

Thanks for following up. As long as it is working with the leading 0 then that is fine if Amazon wants to add a zero. But if it works without the leading 0 and doesn’t work with the leading 0 then you’d have to ask Amazon seller support if there is a way to stop that behavior.

    Kind regards,
    John

It works fine with the leading 0 – just gets warning from WP-Lister!

    Hey @tomcoady

If you want, you should be able to enable the “Missing product details warning” setting on the advanced settings page of WP-Lister which should disable those warnings about EANs. But that setting will also disable warnings about SKUs, prices, quantity, and other fields that are required when listing to Amazon.

    Kind regards,
    John

OK thanks John, that’s great to know.

Sorry for the delay, but this should be fixed in version 0.9.21 which should not show that warning for 13 digit EANs with a leading zero anymore.

    kind regards,
    Matt

Fantastic thanks Matt! It didn’t matter much but was annoying to keep seeing the false flag 🙂
