I’m getting some kind of spam bot subscribing to my site via Subscribe2 – they come up as registered users and I can’t see how to delete them. Email addresses are things like “” or otherwise spam type names.

I’m quite nervous that someone can hijack my email list – if I can’t work out how to delete these “users” and stop it happening again I think I have to disable the plugin.

  • @drtreehugger,

If you go to Subscribe2 -> Subscribers and click the boxes with a red “x” above them and then click process those Public Emails will be erased. If they are registered users then the boxes will not be there and the source of your spam sign ups is not Subscribe2 but WordPress.

If they are Public Subscribers and there is a consistent domain to the addresses (like then you can add this to the barred list in the Settings page to stop future sign ups from that domain.

I’ve got the same problem as treehugger, and as you describe the bots are not public they are registered subscribers. It forced me to turn on akismet and it’s blocked 3,500 comments on my blog in the last month.

So from what you describe above, the problem is not subscribe2 but wordpress? And the problem would have happened regardless of whether subscribe2 was installed or not? Any ideas how I can remove the bot from the site?

I combat this on my site using an add in to the registration page that tries to ensure the registrant is a human being. Try using a Captcha type plugin, I use SABRE.
