The alt text bulk update feature of this plugin for the existing images is FAKE and misleading.

    Why?

Because the updating of the image alt txts is implemented only inside the media gallery, and not inside the actual posts.

Meaning, Google and other search engines will never be able to see the updated alt texts.

It means, the alt text update from this plugin for all the existing images will have absolutely no SEO benefit. Meaning, it is an useless effort and a complete waste of time.

The plugin author very well knows about this, but has not disclosed this in his plugin description, because his intention was to maximize the plugin downloads, by boasting a fake and misleading feature description of this plugin.

    Hello Sagar,

My name is Arun. I hear your frustration. Let me explain.

Whether the updates in the Media Library gets reflected on the page HTML depends on the theme. Most WooCommerce themes pull attributes from the Media Library. This is especially true for the product gallery images.

Updates in the post HTML is part of the premium add-on, Image Attributes Pro and this info is mentioned in the plugin description with a link to this article to highlight what the difference is – https://imageattributespro.com/how-wordpress-store-image-attributes/ . I understand that you would have liked to have it in the free version, but I wouldn’t be able to sustain the plugin if everything was free.

    Cheers.

    Thank you Arun,

What is the main objective of updating the image alt text for the existing images? It is specifically for getting SEO purpose, right? Which is not fulfilled by your plugin’s free version.

Most webmasters have wordpress blogs, and they will refer to your wordpress plugin homepage for the details.

On that page you should clearly mention that the bulk updating of the image alt text (free version) will NOT PROVIDE any SEO benefit to the updated wordpress images.

If the free version is not providing any SEO benefit then it should be specifically mentioned on the plugin page. Because it is easy to update the alt txt manually for the new uploads but very difficult to bulk update for all the existing images, which is why people will come to your plugin.

I used your plugin on two of my wordpress websites having 13000 images each, and I was very happy initially when I saw all the image alt texts updated in my media folder.

Then I tested the actual posts by right clicking on the images and then inspecting them on Google, and i was so surprised and extremely disappointed to see that the alt texts were blank, and then I realized that it was a complete waste of time, since the post images were empty and I was getting ZERO SEO benefit from this effort.

    Cheers!

Sagar, as I explained before whether the bulk updater works for your website or not also depends on your theme. Many WooCommerce themes pull the alt text from the Media Library.

It also works for new uploads for all kinds of themes.

Sorry the free version didn’t work for your case. The decent thing to do would have been to purchase a paid version. Not leaving a 1 star review without checking your facts.

    Thank you Arun,

The issue is not theme related. I use Genesis child theme and I don’t think it could be the issue.

So, the free version, bulk alt txt update feature of your plugin does not provide any SEO benefit for the standard wordpress blogs and websites. This is now clear, and you have to admit this.
