    Dear community,

Today, out of nowhere, the following error occurred:

Warning: require(/homepages/22/d716416463/htdocs/DOMAIN_tobias-holm/wp-includes/post.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /homepages/22/d716416463/htdocs/DOMAIN_tobias-holm/wp-settings.php on line 178

Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required ‘/homepages/22/d716416463/htdocs/DOMAIN_tobias-holm/wp-includes/post.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php7.1′) in /homepages/22/d716416463/htdocs/DOMAIN_tobias-holm/wp-settings.php on line 178
The site is experiencing technical difficulties. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

I’ve already tried setting the permission-values to 644 (files) and 755 (folder) but for some reason for instance “post.php” and various other files simply reset after approx. 1 min.
And during this one minute, all I can see is a white screen.

I am desperate right now, to be honest; it seems that all my hard work is gone.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

    Sincerely,

    Tobias Holm

  • Hi Tobias,

Take a deep breath, relax and know that your hard work is not gone. These errors are just preventing your site from being shown currently. To be honest this seems like an issue your host may have caused. A permission denied error could mean a couple different things. First is that permissions are incorrect which you said you set them to the correct permissions. Second is that the ownership of the files has changed this is something your host could have accidentally done. My recommendation here would be to contact your host and see what could be going on here. They will have a better idea of what permission/ownership scheme they are using and will be able to advise you on whats going on here. So please contact them and let us know how it goes.

If you have any questions or concerns over this please feel free to ask.

    Thanks!

    Dear Josh,

Thank you so much for your reply – it really helped to calm me down! 🙂

I did as you said and lucky my website is now working again. (:
It turned out to be a virus which infected my website and my host automatically detected it – now everything is clean and working again.

Once again thank you very much for your help, Josh! 🙂

    Best wishes,

    Tobias
