Facebook/Google Plus Descriptions cut off

  • Hi,

I recently moved from All in One SEO to WordPress SEO. I enabled the “Add OpenGraph meta data” box and put %%excerpt%% as the description in front page settings.

I expected my site to appear the same as it was before when linked to Facebook and Google Plus (by using the buttons on my site or copy and pasting a url).

However, now the descriptions cut off mid sentence, whereas before it would display the full content of posts (my posts are short but sometimes a bit longer than 156). Is there a way to return it to posting the full content without manually changing the meta description on each post? Or even making it so that when a post gets cut off there is an ellipsis and it doesn’t look so abrupt.

My site is http://www.profootballhotreads.com and here would be a sample post getting cut off by the said social media:

Note: I also experienced a double title issue but it was resolved when I deactivated an opengraph plug in.

  • In edit post section, under the post do you have anything in the “excerpt” field or is it empty?

Actually, there isn’t an excerpt section in my edit post section.

The %%excerpt%% in the description doesn’t appear to be the issue as I did try it with that box blank.

Interestingly, if I use a link to a url from my site’s in site search results, it does use an allipsis in Social Media.
