This is actually intentional. The Facebook integration is suppose to be a Like button not a Follow. This is because Follow buttons are only for public updates.
Although this would be a good addition for a future update so we will definitely consider your idea :).
Thank you very much for your quick answer.
It would be great if you could support both scenarios!
Hello,
I took a look at it. Is there any reason you’re using v1 of the API instead of v2?
The changes to use follow me instead of like, are straightforward. As I am on a hurry I changed the code. There are 2 parameters that aren’t used in follow: data-share and data-action, so I commented them out 😛
The only parameter that has follow that doesn’t have like is data-height but if I don’t specify it, the button looks fine, so I haven’t added to the code. And of course, you have to change the class for the div.
You can see the changes here:

Of course, the better would be to change the settings page to allow both options but I’m in a hurry.

Looks like you got everything figured out. If you know how to use Github then you can find this plugin here. You can fork the project and add your changes to your own version.
We will absolutely look at your code when we implement the Follow button for Facebook.
OK, but as I told you my changes don’t have the GUI part to change from like to follow, that is the most tedious and what makes it usable by other people.
BTW, It would be nice if you could add another field in the Widget under the title, in order to put some text to try to convince the people to click the buttons to follow below.

Yes we will definitely take your idea of adding support for Facebook Follow buttons into the plugin, as well as the added text below the title.

We just added support for Facebook Follow and Like buttons. Please make sure you have version 1.5 or later. If you like this plugin a lot please rate it. It helps us to stay motivated to always have great support for all free plugins.
Thank you.
Before rating your plugin, I have to take a look to a problem I’m facing about “Remove the following redirect chain if possible” HTTP -> HTTPS for facebook to see if the problem is in your plugin or in another one I used for each post.

The Follow button that we include in the widget zone is created using the code Facebook documents here. So the code we add is approved by Facebook and follows all standards.
From my research Facebook seems to use HTTP protocols for their iframe.
