We looked at your provided page and we can confirm that Yoast SEO generating all the necessary social open graph meta correctly. We have also tested the provided page using the Facebook object debugger and we see the meta description isn’t appearing while Facebook object debugger is detecting the meta description correctly and we are not sure why.
If you change the title of your page for Facebook to make something shorter and run the Facebook object debugger tool, does this resolve the issue?
Sort of?
1. If I change the facebook title to just “test”, then the debugger displays:
test
Leaked documents show that Wakefield and Hooker have misconstrued the CDC…
2. If I change the actual post title to “testing”, then the debugger displays:
testing | Earth Med Research
Leaked documents show that Wakefield and Hooker have misconstrued the CDC…
The full description should be quite a bit longer: “Leaked documents show that Wakefield and Hooker have misconstrued the CDC whistleblower scandal. The real reason MMR-autism studies are wrong is not a conspiracy, but a systematic flaw called healthy user bias.”
But it is interesting that shortening the title does at least get a small amount of the description to display. Though I have (unreliably) seen that much of the description show up anyway after I actually click the Publish button when sharing a post, even if it did not show up in the preview.
3. I made a test page
https://www.earthmedresearch.org/meta-test/
The debugger shares this is:
Meta test | Earth Med Research
This is a test of meta description. This is a test of meta description. This is a test of…
The full description here reads: “This is a test of meta description. This is a test of meta description. This is a test of meta description. This is a test of meta description. This is a test of meta description. This is a test of meta description. This is a test of meta description. This is a test of meta description.”
I wonder if this has anything to do with changes facebook is making to combat “fake news” or some such thing. Does it work for your test sites? Maybe facebook is detecting some controversial topics on the sites I’ve tested, and is intentionally disadvantaging them? Would not be the first time I’ve seen something like that.

I am noticing a lack of descriptions on people’s facebook pages in general today. I think maybe this is a widespread facebook change. Not sure if this means descriptions are dead…
@metallikat36 we too have noticed that Facebook has changed how the description is displayed (including the length), there are several changes on the preview generated when sharing links. Unfortunately, it is too soon to draw any conclusions or to share accurate guidelines, but we will update the plugin as soon as we have more information.
