Is not really easy work with image in FB. Basically FB search only for images SRC not background images. This happen unfortunately in every website. To control this you need to install SEO YOAST plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-seo/
YOAST settings give the possibility to use an image of your choice as Facebook share image. Refer to YOAST plugin documentation https://yoast.com/social-media-optimization-with-wordpress-seo-by-yoast or some other posts from the net like: https://www.competethemes.com/blog/wordpress-featured-images-facebook-thumbnails or http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-facebook-incorrect-thumbnail-issue-in-wordpress

Unfortunately, some times FB do not clear the post and keep always the first SRC find in it.
wonder why FB debugger gives this
