Facebook Likes transfer over on host change

I have the same problem as this guy http://wordpress.org/support/topic/when-you-replace-a-serverwill-facebook-likescomments-be-shown-on-the-new-host

I’m moving the site to a new host but keeping the domain name the same.

Can anyone verify that the likes actually do move over. My client is very adamant about this and would not be good to loose all his FB likes.

Is there a good way to test this before pointing the domain over?
