Suddenly, the Like button disappeared in Firefox, but shows up fine in IE. I’m using a plugin for individual posts and the dev code http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like for the widget.
It was working fine until today.
I’ve got the same problem today. I can see the button on my machine on firefox, however, my colleague couldn’t see it on his.
Do you think they’ve changed it? As generally speaking it is a common bug that the like button disappear on IE.
Anyway, please let me know if you got any hints. Thank you very much Susan.
Same problem here but I think I found out why. It started happening ever since Facebook changed their look for ‘Pages’. Ever since I made the upgrade, Facebook Like buttons vanish on my site whenever I’m logged in. Not sure why. This does NOT happen when I’m logged into my regular profile, but it happens when I log into my ‘Page’. It’s a bug, and I’m not sure how to fix it. Any ideas / updates?
Thanks in advance.
Well, it’s good to know I’m not imagining things. I agree about the Page issue. That is exactly what I have done – alternated between logging into my Page and my regular profile.
Not sure what to do about this though.
Same thing started happening for me 🙁
I managed to fix this by creating an App Id and adding the async functions to the body of my script. Perhaps Facebook has changed the requirements now?
In any case, this may help:
1. Create an app on Facebook, using your blog URL as the App URL : http://developers.facebook.com/setup/
This should auto generate your app ID, and also generate some sample code.
2. Add the facebook xml namespace that was generated to your opening html tag:
<!DOCTYPE html> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:fb="http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml">
Everything started working for me after I did this.
Thank you very much!
This is very useful but I need some clarification.
“This should auto generate your app ID, and also generate some SAMPLE CODE.
2. Add the facebook XML NAMESPACE namespace that was generated to your opening html tag: xmlns:fb=”http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml”
After going to the Facebook developers page.
I created an “App” and got an App ID / API key
I’m not sure what to do next?
Thanks again for the post. At least now I have some understanding for why the button does not appear in Firefox.
