Support » Plugin: UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin » Extra whitespace error but not from plugins or themes

  • Resolved itsbobross

    Using the latest updates of wordpress and updraft. Gives me the “extra whitespace” warning and I can’t figure out where this whitespace is or how to get rid of it.

    I’ve deactivated every plugin as well as gone to the standard wordpress theme and the whitespace error is still there.

    The helpfile says to check my wp-config file and I’ve looked at it but I don’t know what I’m looking for … extra whitespace? Just delete any I see???

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Could you check your wp-config.php file for any whitespace characters before the ‘<?php’ or after the ‘?>’ in the file?

    If the extra character is not in the wp-config file, please could you temporarily switch to a default theme, if possible? Does the whitespace message disappear if you do this?

    Kind Regards,

    Hi Bryle thanks for replying.

    I did also switch to the default wordpress theme as well as disabling all plugins and the issue was still there.

    In wp-config there are no whitespace before the <?php tag however there is a blank line above it (line “1” is blank). Should I delete that line?

    Additionally, I do not see a closing ?> tag, should this always be there? I don’t see any closing tag at all, the last line of code ends with a ;

    Apologies for the delay.

    Yes, you should delete the blank line above the <?php tag. The tag should be the first thing in the file.

    The closing tag is not necessary, and it is fine if it is not present.

    Perfect, that fixed it, working now with no whitespace error — thank you!!
