Support » Themes and Templates » Extra Period at the top of the page

  • Hello World,

I have a problem trying to locate an extra period at the top of my website. It seems to be a period typed in by who knows what!?

Anyway, I tried using Firebug to figure out where it’s coming from and it seems to be not specific to any theme.

It’s a black dot at the top of the page:

    Any help is much appreciated!

  • It’s likely just an extra period in your theme. check the header.php or index.php for it

    Thanks jdingman.

I checked those files and I didn’t see any extra periods.
From the admin side of my website it is also appearing. I viewed the source code and saw that the period is appearing right before the DOCTYPE statement…

    .<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN” “”>

Do you know how to remove it?

just edit the file with any text editor and it should remove it.

    Thanks again jding…
I found the extra period in wp-config.php and removed it. It is the oddest thing. I don’t think I touched that file.

I would install the WP File Monitor plugin too, to make sure you don’t get hacked (or if you do get hacked, it will tell you which files got modified).

    Good security plugin.
