Extra classes – necessary; and best way to remove?

    I’m not a regular user of WP, and struggle to understand the reasoning behind some of the seemingly unnecessary and over-complex classes it generates.

    Examples: li id=”menu-item-2273″ class=”menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page menu-item-2273″. And article id=”post-2541″ class=”post-2541 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-misc”.

    Why so complex?
    And what’s the sane way to reduce clutter?
