Hello,

I want a button on the slider to send to an external url. But when I add the external url the link in the button settings it doesn’t work.

How can make a button in the slider send to an external url after clicking it ?

Hi @voltach

I think your problem is that you’re linking relatively:
https://smartslider.helpscoutdocs.com/article/1941-problem-with-urls#the-link-puts-the-site-url-in-front-of-the-entered-link
but you can only use Absolute URLs to redirect to another werbsite.

So if you want to go to WordPress.org you should link like this:
https://wordpress.org
not like this:
wordpress.org

Also, please make sure you don’t have the # at the start of the URL. That’s going to turn your link into an anchor link:
https://www.rapidtables.com/web/html/link/html-anchor-link.html

I already did that but when I try to link to a short url like https://youtube.org, but once I put a long link the button disappears. I works only on reponsive mode (on my phone)

Can you send me an example of a long link that doesn’t work?

Can you share a link to the page where I can see the problem? If you don’t want to put your site URL to a public forum, you can send it privately via:

I’ve received the links, thanks!

From our end, there’s actually no limit on the amount of characters you can have in alink.

Looking at your site, I can see the button on desktop:

and mobile, too. The link seems to work fine for me as well, it redirects to entirelypets[dot]com.

Do you see the disappearance problem in the backend only? Can you try adding “nonsense” links, like:
https://asdf.com/asdfghjklasdfgh-jklasdfghjkl-asdfgh-jklsdfgh-jklsdfghjklasdfghjklasdfghjklasdfghjkl-asdfgh-jklsdfghsasd
This is exactly as many characters as the link you’re using.

If this is saved without problems, please try something like:
https://asdf.com/?url=asdfghjklasdfgh-jklasdfghjkl-asdfgh-jklsdfgh-jklsdfghjklasdfghjklasdfghjklasdfghjkl-asdfgh-jklsdfg

If that’s still good, try:
https://asdf.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fasdf.com/ghjklasdfgh-jklasdfghjkl-asdfgh-jklsdfgh-jklsdfghjklasdfghjklasdfghjklasdfg

If still okay, please try this:
https://asdf.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.asdf.com/ghjklasdfgh-jklasdfghjkl-asdfgh-jklsdfgh-jklsdfghjklasdfghjklasdfghjkla

If the problem comes back at either of the last two links, please try:
https://asdf.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.asdf.com
That’s not a long link, but it contains a https:// which might trigger some server setting/limitation and that can cause the problem.

For anyone interested:
Kaspersky antivirus program blocked these random character urls. Once the antivirus program got turned off, everything was fine.
