External Table dropdown/select list

I have searched the forum but cant find any related information
I would like the user to be able to select from a custom field dropdown a list of data that comes from another table in the DB to the golf course he belongs. Currently I have a list of 400 golf courses and the list is growing on a daily basis. This makes it very difficult to keep adding a new course to the choices field in the dropdown field.
