# External hyperlink don’t work

 * I can’t seem to get my hyperlinks to work. I finally figured out how to link 
   internally using the code [](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/external-hyperlink-dont-work/index.phpposttitle?output_format=md)
 * However, I can’t get external links to work. For example:
    I type in this code
   [Google](http://google.com) and then I get a 404 message and this is what appears
   in the address bar: [http://thestepfordchild.com/go.php?http://google.com](http://thestepfordchild.com/go.php?http://google.com)
 * It is as though it will not clear the address before trying to do an external
   hyperlink.
 * Any help? I’ve looked through the settings, but can’t figure it out.
 * I am using a WordPress template that someone else designed. It is HoPE.

 * I’m having this exact problem with WP 3.0. I have it setup for multi-site usage,
   and is installed in the root folder. I have seen the problem with Thematic and
   all it’s child themes, and also Thelonious, the new default template.
 * It’s driving me crazy, please help!
